When a Character Comes to Life: Channeling the Spirit of a Mermaid

There is something magical that happens when you write a book. At first, the characters live quietly inside your imagination—shadows of personalities, voices that whisper ideas, fragments of stories waiting to be told. But sometimes, if you listen closely enough, those characters begin to feel very real.

As a writer, one of the most thrilling experiences is channeling a character you created and watching them come to life beyond the page.

Recently, I had one of those moments with a character from my novel "Maradonia and the Guardians of the Portal". When I first imagined the mermaid, she existed only in words and dreams. I thought about the ocean currents she would swim through, the colors of the deep sea reflecting off her scales, and the quiet wisdom she carried from the underwater world. Writing her story felt like discovering a secret world beneath the surface.

But something extraordinary happens when you step into the spirit of a character you created. It feels less like pretending and more like connecting. Suddenly, you can see the world through their eyes. You begin to understand how they move, how they speak, and what they feel. In those moments, the line between writer and character becomes beautifully blurred.

Channeling a mermaid character is especially enchanting. Mermaids represent freedom, mystery, and the untamed beauty of the ocean. When I embody her energy, I imagine the sensation of gliding through cold blue waters, hearing the songs of distant whales, and communicating with sea creatures that most people only dream about. There is a sense of ancient wisdom in the sea—a rhythm that reminds you to slow down and listen.

For me, bringing this character to life feels like stepping into another dimension of storytelling. She has movement, personality, and emotion. It's almost as if the story is expanding into the real world.

Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with writing in the first place. Stories are powerful portals. They allow us to explore worlds that don’t exist yet.

It's a reminder that imagination is one of the most powerful forces we have. With a pen, a vision, and a little courage, entire worlds can emerge from the depths of our minds.

And sometimes… those worlds swim right into reality.

I had so much fun shooting this spontaneous video :)

Check it out!
